John Schmidt Wins US Open
US Open Champion John Schmidt captured the title with an 11-6 defeat over Rodolfo Luat, who remained undefeated up until the final match.
Down 4-2 in the final set, Schmidt rallied to win five straight games and pull ahead 7-4. That gave him all the momentum he needed. Luat would win just two more games in the set.
Schmidt earned $40,000 cash to go with his shiny new title. Luat won $15,000 for second. Gabe Owen took home $10,000 for third and David Broxson $5,000 for fourth.
