Billiards International Challenge of Champions Underway

Action kicked off in the International Challenge of Champions and already things are heating up! In the first quarterfinal, Dennis Orcullo defeate Satoshi Kawabata 5-4, then Kawabata returned the serve with an equal 5-4 thriller, resulting in a one game Sudden Death playoff, won by Dennis Orcollo.

Next up was Shane Van Boening vs. Jian-Bo Fu. Van Boening dusted Fu 5-0. But Fu came back to win the second set, also resulting in a one game Sudden Death, won by Jian-Bo Fu and taking down America's hopes for a victory.

Onto Jung-Lin Chang vs. Daryl Peach bested Peach in two straight sets, 5-4 and 5-3. The final match pitted defending champion Niels Feijen against Seung-Woo Ryu. Feijen defeated Ryu two straight sets as well, 5-2 and 5-2. Today's semifinal matches will feature Dennis Orcollo vs. Jung-Lin Chang and Jian-Bo Fu vs. Niels Feijen.

European Straight Pool Championships Won by Croatia!

At the start of the European Championships in Willingen, the German team celebrated a double victory. In the senior's division, Gunter Geisen beat Tony Fransson from Sweden and in the junior's division, Stefan Nolle surprisingly won against his fellow countryman Dominic Jentsch. The final in the men's division was unexpectedly won by Croatian Ivica Putnik, who defeated world champion Ralf Souquet in the finals!

Florida State 9-Ball Championships Kick Off Next Weekend

The Women's Florida State Championship will be hosted by Capone's Billiard Lounge in Spring Hill, Florida, August 16-17th, 2008. Participation is open to all women players, regardless of skill level. Ladies Spirit Tour membership is required, and can be purchased prior to the player's meeting. Gregory, Lecorgne to Fill Vacant BCA Board Seats

The Board of Directors of the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) announces that it has appointed Tom Gregory, of Toltec Lighting, and Greg Lecorgne, of Dave & Buster's, to fill two vacant Board seats for the 2008- 2009 Board year. Gregory will fill the open Manufacturer/Distributor seat and Lecorgne will fill the open Room Operator seat. The BCA Board made its appointment decision during its recent Board meeting, which was held August 5-6, 2008, in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Williams Defeats Archer for Lucasi Hybrid 10-Ball Title!

The Lucasi Hybrid Invitational Classic 10-Ball event at Bankshot Billiards in Jacksonville, Florida, held in conjunction with the Ozone Amateur Championships, Junior Championships, and the Lucasi 14.1 Invitational (taken down by Thorsten Hohmann) was promoted by Dragon Promotions, which is, as most of us know, an operation led by ambitious pro Charlie Williams (himself a former junior champ!) Maybe it should be no surprise then that said Charlie, in between running several events, played his way through the full field of 48 to win his own event. Doesn't seem fair, does it? Then again, who better to take home the $4,000 than the guy who threw the party?!
